Weather Week

OK. It's not really weather week. Welcome to Wisconsin's Tornado and Severe Weather Awareness Week. This is a week to remind people to be aware of tornadoes and severe weather. Obvious, huh In conjunction with the State of Wisconsin and the National Weather Service, there will be two tornado drills on Thursday. Area schools, businesses and alerting services will participate. Thursday afternoon (April 20) at 1pm, there will be a mock tornado WATCH, followed at 1:45pm, by a mock tornado WARNING. There will also be another mock tornado WARNING at 6:45pm Thursday evening. These are chances for school, businesses to practice what they would do in the event of an actual tornado. The evening's mock tornado warning, especially, would be a great time to form and practice a plan for what to do at home in the event of an actual tornado. At both the 1:45 & 6:45pm events, alerting systems (such as outdoor sirens, weather radios, and regular radio and television stations will test their alerting systems. So, don't be surprised when the sirens and your weather radios sound. Alerts may also go off on you smartphones. The sun is shining brightly, right now. So, now is the time to form a plan of action you should take in the event of a tornado. Thursday would be a great time to practice it. One note, though. If there is a real chance of severe weather on Thursday, the tests will be moved to another day.
